Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a modality used in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), also referred to as Oriental Medicine. The practice of TCM includes herbal medicine, Asian bodywork, nutritional therapy, gua sha, cupping, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and other modalities. Acupuncture is a technique with ancient roots as well as modern applications.

According to TCM principles, disease is believed to be caused by an imbalance of Yin and Yang, and/or to a disruption in the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”) that flows within the body. TCM and acupuncture treat these imbalances, thereby stimulating the patient’s own natural healing process. Modern science and research also inform the practice of Oriental Medicine and acupuncture which is reflected in modern theory and techniques utilized by many licensed acupuncturists.
